Residential area construction work at Wärtsilä’s former yard in Turku started
The construction work at the old Wärtsilä yard by the river of Aura in Turku has started. A new residential area will be built in the grounds that Wärtsilä Corporation owns. Wärtsilä will hand over the land to chosen construction partners and supervise the quality of the architecture and realisation. The construction of the residential houses will start at the end of 2011 and the first residents will move into the area at the end of 2012. It has been estimated that the construction work will take about eight years in all. The town plan became legally valid on 31 July 2010. The area has building rights for 46,000 floor square metres which equals about 600 apartments and about 1,200 new residents in the area. When finalised, the area will have a total value of around 250 million Euros. The location by the river Aura opposite to the Turku castle is unique and makes it possible to develop the area into the most desired residential area in Turku with the highest architectural standard, quality parking solutions and an own harbour for small boats. The architect company Gullichsen-Vormala Arkkitehdit and their architect Timo Vormala acts as the responsible partner for the quality supervision concerning the architecture. The company won the architect competition concerning the area some time ago. The likely construction partners in the initial phase are Sato Oy, Skanska Oy and SRV Oy.
