Details :

Aztec Technical Services Limited have delivered and supplied a wide range of training courses and engineering resources to the power generation industry for 22 years. These areas of training have included mechanical, electrical and control and instrumentation (C&I) maintenance skills training, power plant operations training including full scope simulator training for Fossil, CCGT and CHP power stations, health and safety training, environmental training, and mobile plant training.

Our knowledge of the electricity supply industry has enabled ATSL to recruit and establish associations with key personnel from the industry. ATSL is now a market leader in training and engineering services to the power generation industry.

From our offices in Bristol, we organise a nationwide network of professional engineers, technical trainers and associate trainers who deliver our services to our UK and worldwide customers. These highly trained and motivated professionals are available to provide their specialist knowledge and skills in a cost effective manner to the power generation and utility industries.

Maintenance skills training for the power, utilities and process industries

Maintenance skills training can be delivered to all disciplines of maintenance staff working in the power, utilities and process industries. Whether aimed at apprentices, craftsmen, technicians or engineers, our courses are tailored to the appropriate skill level.

Additionally, we have developed ad hoc training programmes for cross-skilling, multi-skilling and skill enhancement courses; for example, electrical to control and instrumentation, mechanical to electrical, or electrical to mechanical.

Operational skills training

Operational skills training courses cover the plant and equipment used in the generation of electricity, production of steam, or any part of a process that needs to be operated effectively, safely and in an environmentally acceptable manner. Our training is aimed at ensuring that your staff operate with a sound understanding of the particular process, and include the following areas of the power generation industry:

  • Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP)
  • Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT)
  • Fossil fired power plant - coal and oil
  • Nuclear power - conventional plant
  • Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant - gas turbine and IC engine powered
  • Process utility plant - package or small boiler, small steam turbines, steam distribution systems

Operational skills training is available to all levels of personnel and, with access to power plant simulators, we can enhance the quality of operational skills training by providing hands-on opportunities to learn procedures and actions associated with start-up, shut down, routine operation and plant faults and emergencies.

Technical publications

Aztec's technical publications and printing department have produced several distance learning programmes for the energy industry. We have provided both the production expertise and subject experts at all stages during the production of a programme, including graphics and final authoring.

We have produced distance learning courses for both the power generation industry and internal courses to meet individual company needs; these courses include subjects such as operation of power plant for conventional, nuclear, CHP and CCGT sites. The aim of these courses is to provide students with the underpinning knowledge in support of NVQs and SNVQs, assisted where appropriate by our network of tutors.

Management training

Management training was introduced to our already extensive portfolio of courses at the beginning of 2006. This area of training now includes such topics as: counselling in the workplace, facilitation and management of team briefings, industrial relations awareness, management and motivation (aimed at newly appointed team leaders), performance management, dignity at work, equal opportunities, setting performance targets and many more.
