ENGINE AND INSITU MACHINING OF
CRANKSHAFT MAIN JOURNAL

One of the major shipping company in Indonesia engaged
Goltens to perform a complete overhaul their SEMT
Pielstick 12PC2-5 main engine on one of their container
ships.
During the overhaul, it was found that one of the main
journals was damaged and needed to be repaired. Goltens
proposed an Insitu machining solution to restore the journal
and engine to an operational status.
Goltens deployed its In-Situ machinists and tools to the ship
and repaired the damaged main journal and completed the
overhaul of the engine.
REPAIRS CONSISTED OF:
• Engine general overhaul including reconditioning of the
turbocharger and governor
• Overhaul and recondition of cylinder heads
• Overhaul pistons and connecting rods
• Cylinder liner deglazing
• Magnaflux and hardness inspection of crankshaft main
journals
• Machining of main journal no.4 to -1.50mm (313.50mm)
• Reconditioning of main bearing cap
• Replacement all main bearings
• Polishing of all crankshaft journals
• Overhaul and calibration of fuel injection pumps and
injection valves
• Engine commissioning and sea trial
RESULTS:
The seamless coordination by Goltens providing Diesel,
InSitu and Workshop services was recognized and
appreciated by the customer. Goltens successfully
completed a complicated job on time and managed to
reduce both downtime and the operational cost for the
customer.
