What is EPA Tier 4 Certified Engine ?

An EPA Tier 4 certified engine is an engine that meets the strict emission standards set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for non-road diesel engines. These standards were first introduced in 2004, and have been updated several times since then.

The EPA Tier 4 standards set limits on the amount of particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) that an engine can emit. PM is a mixture of tiny particles and liquid droplets that can be harmful to human health and the environment, while NOx is a major contributor to smog and acid rain.

To meet the Tier 4 standards, engine manufacturers must use advanced emissions control technology such as diesel particulate filters (DPFs), selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems, and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). These technologies work together to significantly reduce PM and NOx emissions, making Tier 4 engines much cleaner than their predecessors.

Tier 4 certified engines are used in a wide range of applications, including construction equipment, agricultural machinery, locomotives, marine vessels, and power generators. The standards have helped to significantly reduce harmful emissions from non-road diesel engines, improving air quality and protecting public health and the environment.
