Caterpillar Global Petroleum Reaches Milestone, Sells 100th GCM for Gas Compression
Boardwalk Pipeline Partners Orders Cat® G16CM34 for Hall Summit Project Extension

Houston, Texas - Boardwalk Pipeline Partners recently selected the Cat® G16CM34 to power an extension of the Hall Summit Project located thirty miles south of Shreveport, Louisiana. Boardwalk’s order marks the sale of the 100th gas compression engine, a significant milestone for Caterpillar Global Petroleum and a testament to the proven performance of the GCM engine family. The G16CM34 is a V-16, four stroke natural gas petroleum engine with an 8180 bhp (6100 bkW) at 750 rpm power rating. Chosen over gas turbines and other reciprocating engines for the expansion project, the engine will be used to add horsepower and serve as a backup for compression at the site. The G16CM34 will be delivered to Enerflex, who will utilize their block mounted design and package the gas compression engine for Boardwalk.

“The superior performance of the G16CM34 will reduce operating costs, add process flexibility and serve as an efficient driver for the Hall Summit pipeline expansion,” said Jeremy Valero, Caterpillar Global Petroleum Major Account Manager. “This particular order represents an outstanding achievement for Caterpillar Global Petroleum. We’re proud to have 100 GCM engines powering gas compression in the natural gas pipeline market today.”

The G16CM34 is a spark-ignited, turbocharged and after-cooled engine providing low emissions, high efficiency, constant torque and variable speed. The lean burn engine achieves high efficiency and low emissions by utilizing solenoid-operated admission valves, enriched pre-chamber design and Caterpillar ADEM™ A3 control technology. Manufactured in Rostock, Germany, the GCM series is changing the ways gas compression engines can be applied in the gas pipeline market.
“The outstanding fuel rate and wide operating range of the GCM engine makes it a more cost-effective alternative for many gas compression applications in comparison to other available technology,” noted Caterpillar Motoren Product Manager Scott Young. “The GCM engine provides great power, performance and value to any installation site.”

In addition to the reliable horsepower the G16CM34 will provide the Hall Summit pipeline, Boardwalk will also receive legendary product support and service from the Cat Dealer network. Cat Dealer Louisiana Machinery was involved in the sale and will provide stellar maintenance and support capabilities at the site in Louisiana.
