MAN B&W - PAXMAN 18 VP185 UNUSED Diesel Engine 2005

Year of Build 3250 KW @1500 RPM Never Installed

SECTION 1 : EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This proposal describes the supply of 2 off MAN B&W Diesel Ltd, 18VP185 industrial generator drive engines for FG Wilsons, BBC Phase 2 Project

The 18VP185 is the most recent development of the VP185 engine range and incorporates state of the art technology with proven reliability.  There are over 295 VP185 engines in service or on order, examples having run 24,000 hours of operation to major overhaul.  The VP185 has amassed over 1,000,000 hours experience, including a high proportion of operational hours at low power and/or idling and offers the following major benefits :-

High availability (typically in excess of 95%).

Low fuel consumption.

High output power at 1500 and 1800 rpm.

Highly competitive through life costs.

Customer support is a major concern for engine operators and the VP185 package is supported by a comprehensive worldwide service network.  This enables MAN B&W Diesel Ltd to provide our customers with support 24 hours, 365 days a year in many regions of the world.

In addition to representing excellent capital value, the VP185 offers competitive fuel consumption and through life costing.  If required this can be supplied based upon the engines expected operating profile.

NOISE SPECIFICATION

A typical noise spectrum for the basic engine can be provided if required.

STARTING TIMES & LOAD ACCEPTANCE

Start times and load acceptance capabilities are dependent on the inertia of the alternator.

Typically based on an alternator inertia of 140 kgm², the engine would be firing and accelerating after 5 seconds and at rated speed after 12 – 15 seconds.

Note: this is based on the assumption that engine is conditioned i.e. engine jacket water heaters are on and up to temperature (45°) and oil is primed.

Once the engine has reached synchronous speed the engine can be loaded in stages.

Based on a typical alternator inertia of 140 kgm², the engine will accept a 40% load step (from zero).
