Magnox to Shut Down Reactor at UK Power Station

Plant operator Magnox will shut down Reactor 2 at the Oldbury Power Station in South Gloucestershire, UK, as it has reached the end of its operational life.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority stopped manufacturing the uranium fuel used at the Oldbury power station in 2008.

Reactor 2, which has produced more than 65TWh of power, was previously designated to be closed in December 2008, but its life was extended.

Reactor 1 of the Oldbury Power Station will continue to operate until the end of 2012.
