GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The gas compressor is a centrifugal-type compressor designed for efficient medium-pressure-ratio gas boosting service when driven by a Solar turbine. Table 9.1.1 lists compressor design characteristics particular to this installation. The compressor is designed to operate at ambient temperatures as low as -20°F (-29°C) and discharge gas temperatures as high as 350°F (177°C). Compression is achieved in a centrifugal-type compressor by increasing the velocity and the static pressure of the fluid gas as it passes through each rotor/stator stage. The gas is drawn into the eye of the impeller and leaves at the periphery through the impeller blades. Entering a stationary vaned or vaneless diffuser at high velocity, the gas flow is retarded, converting most of the kinetic energy into additional static pressure
